Cycle Fitting and Analysis Session
As a foundation to all test sessions, a SICI qualified (www.serottacyclinginstitute.com) bike fitter will complete a detailed fit session with the customer. The session will take around two hours and is a very personal and considered appraisal of an individual’s cycling physiology, technique and alignment. The SICI qualification is the one of the most regarded cycle fitting accreditations in the world, providing research based fitting methodologies. This session would then be followed after lunch with a series of physical fitness tests. Fitness testing will allow the athlete to understand his/her own physical capacities upon the bike. Utilising various standard testing protocols we can supply the athlete with quantitative feedback as to their current performance status. The level of testing completed will be based upon an individual appraisal of the customer’s needs and fitness level.
Depending upon customer preference the cycle fit and analysis session may be taken more than once in order to maintain improvements in position due to physical changes or to track performance parameters.
Session deliverables and price.
The fitment and testing will take one day to complete. A small report will be created and sent to the client following the visit, this will detail all of the information gathered throughout the day. The customer will be provided with food and refreshments during the day.

Physical fitness testing
Physical testing may include a combination of the following protocols. These have been chosen to provide the athlete with a broad understanding of their cycle specific fitness performance. The data gathered from these sessions will also allow Factor 001 to set your specific training loads into the performance monitor on your new bike.
- Maximal Aerobic Power Output – This measure is deemed the most important predictor of performance. It is found by incrementally elevating intensity during an aerobic test and recording the power output at which exhaustion occurs.
- V02max - Fitness is often benchmarked by analysing the volume of oxygen consumed during a maximal effort on an aerobic test. VO2max is the maximum amount of oxygen in millilitres that the athlete can use in one minute and can be found during a maximal aerobic power test using gas analysis equipment. Cyclists with a higher VO2max can utilise more oxygen at the highest intensities and usually can generate more power.
- Sub-maximal cycling economy – An ability to be efficient with the use of oxygen during sub-maximal intensity is of high importance. Cyclists who are able to consume less oxygen at a given velocity have a better cycling economy and thus are more efficient on the bike.
- Maximal anaerobic capacity - The Wingate test is used to determine peak anaerobic power and anaerobic capacity; essential for short duration, high intensity efforts. Peak power, anaerobic fatigue and anaerobic capacity provide the cyclist with an overall breakdown of their anaerobic performance.
Cycle fitment session
The basic fit session will include analyses and setup with respect to the following areas:
- Injury/Pain concerns
- Asymmetry
- Ranges of motion
- Posture
- Core-condition
- Muscle-recruitment
- Cleat position/foot/arch-shape
- Pedal force measurement/assessment
- Cycling/sporting history
- Future cycling
- Video analyses
This will take around 2-3 hours. It is recommended to have a new fit session if changes are made to your bike, event type or physical condition.
